Charoleando

Oaxaca, April 2019.
In the Centro de Orientacion al Migrante in Oaxaca de Juarez all the food is donated by shop keepers at the main market, the Central de Abastos. Every Tuesday volunteers, staff and service users each grab a big bag and go get as much food as they can to feed everyone for a week. They call this “charolear”.

Havana 2

Impressions of Cuba’s capital. A trip in 2018 took me there for a week. Despite knowing the language, the food, the sounds and the colours of the Caribbean and of Latin America this has been one of the strangest cultural disorientations I’ve ever experienced. I saw “Porque lloran las mujeres” by Magda Gonzalez Grau in the Cine Yara.

Havana 1

Havana in colour in 2018. The complex Cuban relationship with the US, seen through the US Embassy and the juxtaposition to the 138 flagpoles and the Anti Imperialist Platform. Also with China, the newish concrete Chinese arch. And to itself, with its crumbling buildings. But cinemas are still everywhere and affordable to everyone.
